      Abstract

      Placental examination in obstetric cases complicated by maternal or fetal disorders can provide insight into chronicity and etiology. This review considers two common complications of pregnancy, pre-eclampsia toxemia and intrauterine growth restriction and describes the placental pathologic features often present.
