Pure cartilaginous teratoma of the testis: an immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) study
Abstract
We report a pure monodermal teratoma composed of cartilage only in the testis of a 21 year-old man. The tumor was well-circumscribed and composed exclusively of mature cartilage. The surrounding seminiferous tubules lacked intratubular germ cell neoplasia, unclassified and contained only Sertoli cells. Adjacent to the teratoma was an area of dense fibrous scar consistent with burnt-out germ cell tumor. Immunohistochemistry showed that the tumor was negative for OCT4; and positive for S100-protein. Interphase cytogenetics using fluorescence in situ hybridization showed both isochromosome12p and chromosome 12p overrepresentation in the tumor, confirming the germ cell origin of this tumor.
